Since Steven Reineke composed a musical setting for “Casey at the Bat” nearly two decades ago, the piece has become a magnet for baseball celebrities. James Earl Jones was featured on the composition’s first recording with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, which commissioned the piece. Bob Costas has starred in a performance, as has George Wendt. Johnny Bench has done it multiple times. In one particularly memorable performance, Tommy Lasorda narrated the poem at the Hollywood Bowl; “he lost his place in the middle of it and started rambling on with some random story,” Reineke recalled. “But of course, all those Dodgers fans out in L.A., they just ate it up.”Read full article >>
